Migratory game birds

2007 waterfowl hunt opener conditions

Browns Park Waterfowl Management Area

Due to drought conditions and low flows on the Green River, hunters will find pond levels on the Parson's Unit lower than normal. Ponds on the Bridgeport Unit will be near normal and the Butch Cassidy unit on the Utah-Colorado border is mostly dry on the Utah side. Vehicle and foot access to the units in normal although vehicle and truck traffic in the area is high due to the installation of a gas pipeline through Browns Park. Watch out for heavy equipment and trucks.

Birds numbers are lower than normal due to low water and a lack of early migrant birds. Hunters should expect to see mainly mallards and green winged teal with gadwall, widgeon, ring necked and cinnimon teal mixed in. Goose numbers are at normal levels. Hunters should expect success rates to be slightly lower than normal but that could change if more birds move into the area before the opener.

The Green River is currently flowing steady at 800 cfs with no flucuations. Flows should remain at this level throughout the winter to conserve water in the reservoir.
