Utah conservation officers are seeking the identity of this man in connection with a violation that occurred near Springville on Jan. 31.

UTAH COUNTY — On January 31, 2013, conservation officers with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources were summoned to the foothills, near 1400 North in Springville, regarding a man allowing his German shepherd to harass and hold a bull elk at bay.

When officers arrived, they observed the unidentified man allowing his dog to hold the bull elk on a small ledge. Witnesses said that the man and his dog had been harassing the elk for approximately 30 minutes.

When officers attempted to make contact with the man, he called his dog off and ran east into the canyon.

Every year, Utah's 50 district conservation officers conduct numerous investigations into the illegal taking, harassing or wasting of protected wildlife. Wildlife is particularly vulnerable to harassment in the winter, which causes them to expend unnecessary energy and elevates the risk of death due to adverse weather conditions.
