GARFIELD COUNTY — On December 21, 2012, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources conservation officer Sean Spencer received information regarding a dead mule deer buck on the Henry Mountains near McMillon Springs.
Spencer examined the deer carcass and determined that the animal had been shot through the chest.
The animal was likely shot on the weekend of December 19, from an adjacent roadway, before it ran into a nearby creek bed and died. The antlers of the mature buck measured 26.5 inches wide and sported four points on each side.
This buck meets the trophy definition under Utah state code.
Information leading to a successful prosecution for Wanton Destruction of Protected Wildlife in this case would qualify for a Poaching Reported Reward Permit on the Henry Mountain limited entry deer unit. If you have any information regarding this wildlife crime, please call the Utah Division of Wildlife Turn-in-a-Poacher (UTiP) hotline immediately at 1-800-662-3337.
