GARFIELD COUNTY — Conservation officers with the Utah Division of Wildlife officers are seeking information regarding a poached mule deer buck. On Dec. 3, a concerned citizen found the dead buck in Sheep Hollow on the Panguitch Lake deer management unit. Officers investigated the scene and found that the deer had been shot and left to rot.
Evidence at the scene leads officers to believe that this deer was killed around Nov. 28, 2012. Officers know that the deer had been in the area since Nov. 20 because a local resident took pictures of the buck chasing does.
Officers need your help in identifying the individual(s) responsible for poaching this deer, stealing an ethical sportsman's opportunity to lawfully harvest the buck during the 2013 hunting season.
Poaching on the winter range is a serious problem statewide, and officers are cracking down. DWR officers are putting in long hours statewide, patrolling deer winter range, but they can't be everywhere at one time. This is where members of the public can assist with the protection of their mule deer populations.
