Invasive aquatic species surveying and monitoring
  • Description: Conduct boater surveys at local waters. Volunteers will work to keep Utah waters free from quagga mussels and other invading species. Volunteers will spend time at boat ramps inspecting boats and conducting short surveys with boaters.
  • Process: Quagga and zebra mussels threaten Utah waters with ecological disaster. Volunteers will receive training on what they are, what they can do, how to conduct surveys and inspect for quagga mussels and other invasive species. We will assign volunteers a date, time and water. Using core volunteers, the DWR will expand the program — broadening the message delivery and providing protection to waters that the DWR will not, otherwise, be able to cover.
  • Volunteers needed: No limit to the number of volunteers or the hours worked. We encourage volunteers to work longer than required. The message and protection are critical to keeping Utah waters free of mussels and other invasive species.
  • Dates: Weekends starting Sat. April 5 to Sun. Sept. 7, 2008 (more mid-week dates or earlier/ longer season may be added depending on ice and boat use.)
