Volunteers will receive training on what they are, what they can do, how to conduct surveys and inspect for quagga mussels and other invasive species. We will assign volunteers a date, time and water. Using core volunteers, the DWR will expand the program — broadening the message delivery and providing protection to waters that the DWR will not, otherwise, be able to cover.
  • Volunteers needed: No limit to the number of volunteers or the hours worked. We encourage volunteers to work longer than required. The message and protection are critical to keeping Utah waters free of mussels and other invasive species.
  • Dates: Weekends starting Sat. April 5 to Sun. Sept. 7, 2008 (more mid-week dates or earlier/ longer season may be added depending on ice and boat use.)

Creel surveys for weekly fishing reports
  • Note: This project is intended only for residents of southeastern Utah.
  • Project: The DWR tries to provide weekly fishing reports for anglers in the State of Utah. Generally, conservation officers and biologists contribute a great deal of information, based on their contacts with fishermen and fisheries management work. In fall, especially during the hunting seasons, information sources dry up. Dedicated Hunters can perform a valuable service to the DWR and fishermen by checking fishermen on weekends and reporting to the DWR on Monday, so we can let anglers know how good the fishing is and what tackle and baits seem most effective.
  • Date: Every weekend. Saturdays and Sundays only.
  • Location: All bodies of water in southeastern Utah. Dedicated Hunters will be assigned places to check, based on where they live and where they would like to go. Credit will be awarded for travel time and mileage at the rate of 37 cents per mile.
  • Volunteers needed: unlimited.
  • Supplies needed: creel survey forms, instruction sheet and timesheet. These can be obtained from project leader.
