Dedicated Hunters mobilized for military duty
Dedicated Hunters who are members of the United States Armed Forces or a public health or public safety organization are granted some extra flexibility within the program. If a Dedicated Hunter is ordered to mobilize or deploy in the interest of national defense or in response to an emergency, he or she may request that the Wildlife Conservation Course, RAC attendance and harvest reporting be waived or extended. Required service hours on Wildlife Conservation Projects can be satisfied by time served on active duty, at the discretion of a DWR volunteer services coordinator.
If you have received orders to mobilize or deploy, contact Jill West in the Salt Lake Office at (801) 538-4711 or JillWest@utah.gov before you leave Utah, if possible. Advance notification allows us to keep in better touch with you and better address your needs. When you have returned from deployment, contact us in the Salt Lake Office as soon as you can. We will need a copy of your orders indicating the start and end date of your deployment.
Depending on the length of the deployment, a Dedicated Hunter may have two options. The first is to receive a pro-rated refund for hunts missed. One third of the enrollment fee may be refunded for each hunt missed. To process a refund, the request must be received by the DWR within one year of the missed hunt. The second option is to extend enrollment in the Dedicated Hunter Program so that a soldier or emergency responder can have three years of hunting within the program, regardless of how long the deployment lasts.
If you are a Dedicated Hunter who has missed a hunt while on active duty, please contact Jill West in the Salt Lake office as soon as you return. We will let you know what your options are and guide you through the process.
