Angler ethics
Great fisheries depend on you!
- Respect the outdoors. Protect wild creatures and their homes. Keep your fishing spot tidy, and properly dispose of fishing line, bait containers and any other trash.
- Respect the space of other anglers. Keep noise to a minimum, so as not to disturb people or fish.
- Purchase and carry a current fishing license (12 years old and older).
- Obtain and get familiar with a Utah Fishing Proclamation. Know and obey the rules wherever you fish.
- Report those violating the law to 1-800-662-DEER.
- Law of possession: A person may not take more than one bag limit in any one day or possess more than one bag limit regardless of the number of days spent fishing.
- Respect your catch. Quickly and carefully release fish you won't be eating. Make sure your "keepers" stay alive or on ice until time to clean. After cleaning, keep your fish refrigerated or frozen until you prepare them for the table. During the summer your catch can spoil rapidly if it is not quickly and properly stored.
- Take a buddy fishing! Share your skills and have fun with your family and friends!
Community fishing regulations
The rules and regulations in the Utah Fishing Proclamation apply to community fishing waters, just like they apply to any water in Utah.
The Utah Fishing Proclamation will have rules and season dates for specific species and waters. The publication is free and, in addition to it being available in an electronic format from this Web site, you may also pick up a printed copy at all DWR offices and many sporting goods stores.
Remember: All anglers age 12 and over need a valid Utah State Fishing License to fish in Utah. You may purchase a fishing license online at https://secure.utah.gov/hflo/hflo, at any DWR office or at any DWR license agent.
