Utah fishing — something for everyone
The Beehive State features incredibly diverse and abundant aquatic wildlife. Fifty-four species of freshwater fish reside in Utah's waters. Twenty-four of these are game fish and are managed by the Utah State Division of Wildlife Resources. Angling in Utah can include fly-casting to trout on a high mountain stream, jigging for walleye on a large reservoir, bait on a bobber in a city park, and even fishing through ice for a tasty perch!
License
Anglers 12 years and older must have a valid Utah fishing (or combination) license on their person to fish for all species of fish. Licenses (daily, weekly and annual) are available online. You can also purchase licenses at all DWR offices and most sporting goods stores. A 365-day youth fishing license (only $5) is available for 12- and 13-year-olds, and children under 12 can fish for free. For the cost of two to three nights at the movies, you can have fun on the water all year!
Proclamations
Specific rules and season dates for individual species and waters are found in the Utah Fishing Proclamation. This publication, updated annually, is available online, and from all DWR offices and license agents.
