Urban fishing clubs
The DWR's Urban Fishing Program includes an educational component for urban children (ages six to 13) who have never fished, or haven't fished as much as they'd like.
Youth fishing clubs are being formed in various communities to introduce young people to the joys of responsible sportfishing. Each club of 20 to 40 children meets on local creeks and ponds once a week to learn about angling and aquatic resources.
The clubs are lead by adult mentors (or V.I.s or volunteer instructors) who have attended a training course in aquatic education. The course recommends teaching strategies and ideas to use on the water for children of different ages and abilities.
