View many species of water birds at Desert Lake, just east of Elmo. This is a free event and no pre-registration is required. Biologists will be on hand with spotting scopes and binoculars to assist the public with waterfowl identification. Desert Lake serves as a rest area for many species of birds during migration. The Urban Birding Festival is a fun-filled day of engaging and entertaining activities focusing on simple "how to" hints for birding in your own "backyard". Bird shows will be at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and there will be a pelican encounter at 1:00 p.m. Bird trainers will be showcasing the bird show starts throughout the day.
