Blue Ribbon Fisheries

Price River (Lower Fish Creek)


(Highway 6 Bridge to Scofield Dam)

Location:: Southeastern Region/Emery County

Game fish: Brown, rainbow, and cutthroat trout

Stream length: 9.5 miles

Elevation: 7,150 – 7,600 feet

Average Flow (minimum flow): Average flow is 10 cfs — no minimum flow

Maximum water temperature: Up to 65° F

Productivity: High quality habitat, abundant forage, and relatively stable stream flow provide for a healthy population of brown trout.

Type of fishing available: The bottom nine miles is artificial flies and lures only. Bait is allowed along the top one mile (just below the Scofield Reservoir dam).

Angler pressure: Moderate pressure that decreases as you go further from parking areas.

Accommodations: Nearest motels are in Price/Helper and Spanish Fork. There are developed campgrounds at Scofield State Park and in the town of Scofield. Undeveloped camping opportunities are available on nearby National Forest lands. Camping is not allowed on the DWR property.

Food: Restaurants are located in Scofield, Price/Helper, and Spanish Fork.

Fish food: Various terrestrial and aquatic insects, crustaceans and fish. Insects include mayflies, caddis flies and black flies.

Land ownership: Mixed Division of Wildlife Resources, Federal, and private. Informal agreements allow foot traffic along the railroad right-of-way as long as good stewardship continues.

Access: There is automobile access at the top end (at Scofield Reservoir dam), bottom end (at Colton bridge from Highway 6), and to DWR property at a middle location. Winter fishing and access are difficult due to ice and snow. Access to the DWR property is typically closed during November–May. Travel is not recommended at any time when the road is wet. Road typically requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Unique attraction: Offers secluded fishing within walking distance from access points.
