Location and description

This stream section is the only fishery in Utah with fly-fishing only regulations. Huntington Canyon provides a beautiful setting for this unique fishing opportunity. It is located in Emery County from the confluence of Right Fork to Electric Lake Dam. The length is eight miles at an elevation of 7,650 to 8,400 feet. The minimum flow is six cfs.

Game fish species and methods

High quality habitat and abundant forage provide for a healthy population of naturally reproducing brown, cutthroat and rainbow trout. The top three miles (from Flood and Engineers canyons upstream to the Electric Lake dam) has special regulations: artificial flies only, trout limit is two. Along the lower five-mile stretch, general fishing regulations apply. Primarily midges, mayflies and caddis flies make up the aquatic and terrestrial insects. The creek receives moderate fly-fishing pressure and moderate to heavy bait and spincasting pressure.

Access and facilities

Access is on U.S. Forest Service property. SR-31 parallels the creek in its entirety. The canyon has numerous pullouts, parking areas, and camping spots. The nearest motels are in Fairview, Huntington and Price. There are developed campgrounds throughout Huntington Canyon, and undeveloped camping opportunities in the area. There are restaurants and grocery stores in Huntington, Fairview and Price.
