Asay Creek
(Mammoth Creek Confluence to Highway 89 bridge)
Location:: Located in Garfield County, the stream runs along Highway 89 down to the confluence with Mammoth Creek about 2 miles south of Hatch.
Game fish: Brown and rainbow trout and mountain whitefish.
Stream length: 5.6 miles.
Elevation: 7,000 feet, beginning and ending points.
Average Flow (minimum flow): Typical base flow is about 40 cfs and 30-foot stream width. High flows are about 400 cfs.
Maximum water temperature: less than 70° F
Productivity: Annually stocked with fingerling brown trout. Some natural reproduction occurs. Mountain whitefish are self-sustaining.
Type of fishing available: Flies, lures, and bait.
Angler pressure: Light
Accommodations: Primitive camping along the river. Hotels, restaurants, and other amenities are found in nearby Hatch and Panguitch.
Food: Restaurants and stores are located in Hatch and Panguitch.
Fish food: Fish, caddisflies, mayflies, stoneflies, and terrestrial insects.
Land ownership: Mix of State School Institutional Trust Lands and private property.
Access: Good access from Highway 89 and along the old highway that parallels the stream, watch for signs.
Unique attraction: Spring fed stream with consistent summertime flows.
