12/05 — Bridget Olson, Wildlife Biologist at Bear River Migratory Bird conducted the Waterbird/Raptor Survey and observed the following: about 90% frozen over in all units. Open water only in deep water canals, Bear River and below the Refuge where out flowing Refuge waters meet the Great Salt Lake (Willard Spur). About 20 percent of birds counted below were seen within the tour route area. However, gulls account for most of that percentage. The Bald Eagles have moved in. Highest count on Refuge this year at 42. Large groups of Herons to make up at total of 219!
