In Unit 2 along the auto tour route, she reported Dowitchers, Phalaropes, Western, Least and Baird's Sandpipers; both Yellowlegs, a few Willets and Marbled Godwits and two Long-billed Curlews. There were seven Semipalmated Plovers in the Northwest corner of Unit 2 where there is still standing vegetation. A Peregrine Falcon was sitting on the bare, dry ground on the west side of the tour route.

07/30 — Glen, Donna and Mary Anne Thorum, and Carol Gwynn also birding at BRMBR reported 12 Curlews in a field and a half-dozen Eastern Kingbirds along a fence line on the North side of Forest Street. On the North side of the auto tour loop, they watched a Sora and two Virginia Rails. Along the East side of the tour loop, they observed a breeding plumage Dunlin, and 28 Snowy Plovers.

07/27 — Pomera Fronce reported Loggerhead Shrikes, a Prairie Falcon, Short-eared Owl, Northern Harriers and Sharp-tailed Grouse in Whites Valley. At Bear River Migratory Bird refuge she reported two Great Egrets and a Red Knot.

07/30 — Leslie Loeffel reported Wilson's Phalaropes in the thousands in winter plumage on the Antelope Island causeway.

07/24 — Bill Fenimore observed a Least Tern flying over the Chevron ponds along I-15 at the Warm Springs Road in exit (North Salt Lake). It was in the same area where the bird was observed last week.

07/14 — Bill Fenimore reported a Least Tern flying over the Chevron Ponds, adjacent to I-15 at the Warm Springs Road Exit.

Salt Lake County

07/22 — Jack Holley saw the Green Heron previously reported along the Jordan River by the Parleys Creek Outlet. He also saw a Common Tern at the Lee-Kay Ponds where the Least Tern was reported earlier.

07/17 — Jack Holley has observed a pair of Green Herons along Decker Lake Canal near where it empties into the Jordan River several days this week. To see the birds, go to the Oxbow Trailhead on the Jordan River Parkway along 1100 West at about 3000 South. Take the trail to the North across the bridge to a "T" junction in the trail. Go right, and follow the trail to another "T," where the Decker Lake Canal crosses the trail. Take the left fork upstream along the canal. The birds have been seen and heard along this part of the canal.

07/13 — Joel and Kathy Beyer hiked from Silver Lake to Twin Lakes, via the Lake Solitude trail and observed 44 species, including Three-toed Woodpecker, Red-naped and Williamson's Sapsucker, Red Crossbill, Rufous Hummingbird, and Pine Grosbeak. The bird of the day was a male Northern Goshawk.

07/17 — Alton Thygerson observed the previously reported Northern Goshawk at Silver Lake (near Brighton).

San Juan County

07/23 — Bob Bradley reported an Acorn Woodpecker along US 191 near Devils Canyon Campground south of Monticello at mile post 60.6 perched on a ponderosa snag, east of the highway.

Summit County

07/26 — Dana Green reported Pine Grosbeaks in the meadows around almost all lakes and campgrounds she visited in the Uintas. She saw a Gray Jay, Williamson's Sapsuckers, Brown Creepers, Golden Crowned Kinglets, and a White-winged Crossbill on the Highland Trail at Mirror Lake. She also saw another Gray Jay at Lily Lake campground and a large flock of Black Rosy Finches on the saddle of Mt. Baldy.

Utah County

07/26 — Lois Clark reported 25 – 30 Cattle Egret, just west of the 2nd Springville Exit. Go past the new condos on the left of Hwy. 77. They were off to the south as the road makes the first curve.

07/21 — Merrill Webb reported a singing Winter Wren up American Fork Canyon while doing a woodpecker survey for the US Forest Service. To reach this area go up American Fork Canyon to the Tibble Fork Reservoir turnoff. Go to the parking lot on the north end of the reservoir. Take the North Fork Road, and counting from the edge of the pavement on the northeast corner of the parking lot drive four miles. The stream where the bird was heard is on your right. Merrill cautions that the road up to this point is rough and best traveled in a pickup or other high-clearance vehicle. If you want to continue on up the canyon, the road is better and there is some beautiful country in the Mineral Basin area of the canyon. Be sure and take a forest service map with you so that if you want to continue on out of the canyon towards Wasatch Mountain State Park, you take the right road. Again, be advised, these roads are rough.

Washington County

07/27 — Larry Tripp birding along the Santa Clara River saw four Cassin's Kingbirds. The first one was just north of the town of Gunlock. There were two around Gunlock Reservoir and another one about four miles south of the Reservoir. He also observed a male Indigo Bunting near Gunlock Reservoir.

07/08 — Christi Carmichael and Bob Showler, Zion National Park heard and saw a Winter Wren near the Teah Campground west of Navajo Lake. The bird was about 1/4 of a mile up the trail that starts along the road just to the west of the campground entrance.
