Beaver County
01/20 — Steve Coleman, Farmington Bay Volunteer Naturalist, took a group on through Farmington Bay to see eagles. They saw several eagles. They watched one take a fish and land in a nearby tree to eat it. Steve also a dozen tundra swans, the usual assortment of ducks and a very surprising great egret on the East dike.
Box Elder County
01/31 — Bridget Olson, Wildlife Biologist at Bear River Refuge reported mild temperatures resulting in open water conditions on the Refuge providing for many over-wintering waterfowl A total of 30,889 Ducks of the usual species were counted, along with 1,345 Tundra Swans and 254 Canada geese. There were 23 Bald Eagles on the refuge.

01/04 — Betsy Beneke observed 10 pair of Barrow's Goldeneye at the Hydro Park in Logan.
Davis County
01/20 — Arnold and Aaron Smith, Jack Rensel and Keith Evans observed three Long-tailed ducks on the North side of Antelope Island Causeway, approximately one mile west of the first bridge. They also saw a northern Mockingbird on the East side of the road to Fielding Garr Ranch in the Russian Olive trees.
01/21 — Glenn Barlow, observed two White-winged Scoters and a Long-tailed duck at East Canyon Reservoir.

01/04 — Larry Draper, Eric Huish, Tuula Rose, Bill Slater and KC Childs observed 17 SNOW Buntings on the Antelope Island causeway. They also saw a Long Tailed Duck between Mile Marker 2 and 3.
01/04 — an immature Northern Shrike was observed by the Layton Wild Bird Center group during their regular Saturday Nature/Bird Walk. It was on the North side of Egg Island on a Russian Olive tree at the Farmington Bay Wildlife Management Area.
01/03 — Val Stock observed an adult Northern Mockingbird feeding on apples in his backyard. Val lives at 1385 South 425 West in Bountiful, just East of Robintinos restaurant.
01/03 — 2003, Alton Thygerson observed the SNOW BUNTINGS on the Antelope Island causeway, previously reported by Joel and Kathy Beyer.
01/01 — during the Wasatch Audubon Christmas Bird Count on Antelope Island a Northern Mockingbird was seen by Kris Purdy. A second Mockingbird was observed later by Kris, Glenn Barlow, James McIntyre, Bill Fenimore, Carolyn and Mort Sommer. It was on the road to Fielding Garr Ranch, just North of the last gate on the road to the ranch.
01/01 — Joel and Kathy Beyer observed 13 Snow Buntings along the South side of the Antelope Island Causeway between mile markers 1 and 2. They also observed 2 Least Sandpipers between mile markers 2 and 3 on the North side.
Morgan County
01/15 — Julie VanMoorhem, Pomera Fronce, Jack Torrey and Dana Green observed a Long-tailed Duck, White-winged Scoters, and Hooded Mergansers at East Canyon Reservoir.
Salt Lake County
01/14 — Glenda Cotter, birding at the Salt Lake City Cemetery found both Red-breasted and White-breasted Nuthatches. The White-breasted Nuthatch was in the junipers just east of 960 East 405 North (where the salt pile and waste dumpster are located). The Red-breasted Nuthatch was in a line directly west of there, near the cemetery boundary, both in the large evergreens in the cemetery and in the deciduous trees just the other side of the fence above the tennis courts.
01/14 — Paul Kirby, also birded the Salt Lake City cemetery yesterday. He observed a Townsend's Solitaire, a Mountain Chickadee, Brown Creeper, and 2 White-breasted Nuthatches in a "Money Tree" (deciduous with white bark), just east of the northern dumpster.
01/04 — Larry Draper, Eric Huish, Tuula Rose, Bill Slater and KC Childs observed Herring Gulls at the second turnout between Saltair and the Great Salt Lake Marina. There was a Thayer's Gull in the same group of gulls.
01/01 — Bruce Robinson observed a Northern Mockingbird in the trees in the parking lot of the Franklin Covey retail store (near Decker Lake). At Saltair, Bruce with Bob Bradley and Tony Jones's relocated the Long Tailed Duck reported earlier in the week.
01/01 — Jack Holley reported a Snow Goose by the Oxbow Trailhead (3100 S. 1000 W, Salt Lake City). He also saw a Wood Duck in the river just north of Parleys Creek Outlet (on the East side of the river by the Larry Miller's Parts Warehouse). Farther north by the Docking Park, where the next footbridge over the river is, he saw a male Barrow's Goldeneye with a large flock of Common Goldeneye.
Utah County
01/25 — Alton Thygerson observed a Yellow-shafted form of the Northern flicker. The bird was located behind the Orem Water Treatment Plant. Go to the end of Business Park Drive (exit 272 off of I-15 and go west). At the end of the drive walk the dirt road and trail which comes out behind the water treatment plant. The previously reported COMMON LOON reported by K.C. Child and the Beyers is still there too.
01/20 — at the Timpanogos Water Treatment Plant Joel and Kathy Beyer saw the wintering Swamp Sparrow. They reported a Common Loon near Powell Slough, on the large pond just west of the Orem Water Treatment Plant. At Camelot Woods (west of Springville) we found two Winter Wrens along Hobble Creek. West of Elberta, just off of Highway 6, we saw a large flock of Bushtits, along with a Bewick's Wren.
01/05 — The WINTER WREN reported last year was at Canyon View Park in Provo Canyon was observed again by Alton Thygerson at the same location. Park at the west end of the parking lot, walk on the asphalt trail going toward the mouth of the canyon until you come to a footbridge crossing the Provo River. The wren was next to the bridge on the north side. A LEWIS WOODPECKER was on top of a power line pole at the small park near 4100 North Foothill Drive, in Provo.
01/03 — Pomera Fronce, reported a Great-tailed Grackle at the Flying J near Springville. On the east side of Foothill Drive at about 4100 North (Dover Drive) in Provo, she observed a Lewis's Woodpecker on a telephone pole. Also in Provo, two big flocks of American Crows, one at an LDS church on Timpview Drive (650 East) and 2875 North and the other on the big expanse of lawn west of the temple.
01/03 — Bryan Shirley saw a Swamp Sparrow at Camelot woods in Springville. It was where the trees end, as you follow the river toward the lake.
Washington County
01/25 — Larry Tripp, Kevin Wheeler, and Rick Fridell went to Lytle Ranch and located a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in the orchard on the darkest tree in the orchard. They managed to take a few digital photos. It is an adult male that is wintering at Lytle Ranch.
01/18-20 — Alton Thygerson enjoyed the company of two excellent Washington County birders, Rick Fridell and Larry Tripp. Alton found four of his target birds—Common Moorhen at the Red Hills Golf Course, Golden-crowned Sparrow at Red Cliffs Recreation Area (Leeds area), White-winged Scoter at Sand Hollow Reservoir, and Eurasian Collared Doves in Washington City. In Zion National Park on the Kolob Canyons Road at the Kolob Canyons Viewpoint, he saw WESTERN BLUEBIRDS, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, CASSIN'S FINCH and MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES.
01/03 — Junece Markham observed a Golden-crowned Sparrow at Red Cliffs Recreation area. It was hanging around the Host camp site that is covered with an awning.
Bill Hunter reported a Great Egret on the Sun River Golf Course Pond and at Southgate in St. George.
Weber County
The Layton Wild Bird Center Saturday morning bird walk group observed a Merlin along the Riverdale Parkway in Riverdale. It was at the bridge crossing the Weber River at the Riverdale Civic Center. You can access the Riverdale parkway off Riverdale Avenue at 700 West. Turn South on 700 West and go to the first left which crosses the Weber River.
01/21 — Lee Shirley reported that a White-throated Sparrow is coming to feeder #2 at the Ogden Nature Center (ONC). You can reach ONC from 12th street off I-15 in Ogden. Proceed East, just past the IRS building and turn left into the ONC grounds. Inquire at the visitor center for directions to the nature trail for feeder #2.
01/16 — Dave Deutch and Leslie Loeffel reported a flock of rosy-finches in a tree just below the Hidden Lake Lodge at the top of Powder Mountain ski area. At least one was a gray-crowned rosy-finch on the ground in the parking lot at Hidden Lake Lodge. Turn right just before the condos at the top parking lot for Powder Mountain. The road from that point on is mostly snow-covered, but a 2-wheel drive vehicle should be able to make it.
01/01 — Kris Purdy observed a Western Screech Owl at Beus Pond. It is located in a Willow Tree on the South side of the pond where a Wasatch Audubon Feeder is located.
